[Mac] Shift not working correctly
complete
P
Peter Alfvin
With a standard Apple keyboard on a Mac, double quote character (shift quote) gets interpreted as a single quote by remote computer (also Mac). Also, the tilde character (shift backtick) is interpreted as a backtick. I checked all other visible ASCII characters on the keyboard and they are fine.

J Sherwani (Pop Team) I experienced this issue today, with one user on macOS Catalina and one on Mojave, both using client v1.0.65 and app v1.0.24.
J Sherwani (Pop Team)
Dustin Ingram: are these the exact keys you’re having issues with? I just tried to reproduce the issue, and could not —
"
shows up correctly on the other side (Mojave / Catalina). If there’s a different key combination, please follow the instructions here: https://screen.canny.io/bugs/p/keyboard-issuesD

J Sherwani (Pop Team): It's different. I assumed it was the shift key generally. I'll respond to that issue. Thanks!

Just tried to reproduce and couldn't. Maybe one of our clients had updated in the meantime? For reference, I was trying to type any character with the shift key (capital letters, open/close parens) and none of them were producing output. But it works now!
J Sherwani (Pop Team)
Dustin Ingram: Glad to hear that! If you find any issues, please do report them and we'll fix them asap.

This should now be fixed (just deployed).

J Sherwani (Pop Team): Thank you SO much!!!! Never would have thought that the double quote and tilde problem would be resolved by the same fix as the one for the SHIFT-as-modifier problem. Amazing response time - just like your app! Thanks again. :-)

J Sherwani (Pop Team): Thanks for your support and for working on this so quickly! Unfortunately I seem to still be experiencing this issue. Screen version details attached.
I am on a Mac and the other person connected is using Linux (Ubuntu) and I am still unable to type double-quote characters when they share their screen. I'm using the US English keyboard layout. (Screenshots attached in case it is helpful.) Please let me know if there's additional information that I can provide to assist. Thank you!

Derek Lee Boire: Just pasting this here too so others can see it:
The bug that was fixed was related to Mac <> Mac keyboard inputs, but it looks like your bug report was when you were trying to control an Ubuntu computer from your Mac, which should be covered by this bug instead: https://screen.canny.io/bugs/p/modifier-keys-not-sent-properly-between-different-os — I've subscribed you to that bug so you’re in the loop once we update it.

SHIFT not working as second modifier key

I know you have a bug "Modifier keys not sent properly between different OS", but given the comments on that thread, I thought I'd submit a separate bug eliminating the different-OS variable and focusing on the SHIFT key.
In Mac/Catalina<->Mac/Catalina with US English keyboards, when I attempt to use SHIFT as a modifier with any of CTRL, OPTION or CMD, it does not appear to be recognized. The mechanism I'm using to test this is the "Add Keyboard Shortcut" under the IntelliJ Keymap function.
Any two of CTRL, OPTION and CMD are recognized fine, but none of these are recognized with SHIFT, with the sole exception (that I could find) of SHIFT-CMD with the letter "O", which is treated as SHIFT-CMD-F19! :-)

That’s terrible, sorry! I’m working on this today, and need all the examples I can get, so your post is super helpful. Thank you!

J Sherwani (Pop Team): Just added a smiley face to the end of my last post to make sure knew my attitude is one of gratitude. It's been a long dark winter since ScreenHero went away and I'm just jazzed you guys decided to initiate this effort. Keep up the good work!

Could you please try this again? I pushed an update last night (around 24 hours ago) which should have fixed this issue.

J Sherwani (Pop Team): Thanks for your quick action on this. I just tried and the problem was not evident. That said, there were a couple of earlier times when the problem wasn't evident either. Most of my connections involved another user connecting from a Windows machine to the same remote Mac that I was connected to from my local Mac, and I wasn't sure whether their presence or the order of our connection was a factor. In any event, thank you again!

I had the same problem with double quotes from the guest landing as single quote on the host. Haven't had a chance to check if we also experience the tilde/backtick problem also. One MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019) w/ us english, the other is MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) w/ us english.

What language(s) are both keyboards set to (e.g. US English)?
P
Peter Alfvin
J Sherwani (Pop Team): Yes. Both systems are set to "US English". The physical keyboard on which I'm typing is an Apple wired keyboard. The one on the machine I'm connected to is an Apple wireless, but with the USB cable connected. Also, see updated bug description; I added info about another key problem.
