Keyboard Issues
in progress
J Sherwani (Pop Team)
We just pushed out a significant update that should fix a number of keyboard issues on Mac, Windows and Linux! You should get auto-updated, but if not:
Mac/Windows: Settings > scroll down to see if there’s an update
Linux: snap refresh screen or update via Debian
If something doesn’t work, please comment below with the following information:
1) OS & keyboard language of the screen share host
2) OS & keyboard language of the screen share guest
3) Key combination pressed (e.g. Opt-Shift-2)
4) Expected outcome (e.g. €)
5) Actual outcome (e.g. @)
Thanks!

This issues seems related here as well.

Having problems between MacOS when pairing with VS Code.
One with US keyboard layout and the other with Portuguese keyboard.
We did not detect the shortcut causing the issue but it closes exits/kicks one of the attendees of the Pop video call. We disabled shortcuts and still happening the same issue randomly.
Any clue on what could be the issue?

Pop always crashes after the following situation: I am a host -Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7, guest - Windows 10. I share my screen. First we have US keyboard language, my guest types on keyboard in English. Then I switch keyboard language to RU, my guest types on Russian. Then I switch language back to US, and if my guest start typing anything Pop application crashes.

We've got a similar Problem.
Host and guest are using both:
Windows10 , v8.0.19|v8.0.5 , German Keyboard
ALT GR + ß Expected: \ Result: ß
ALT GR + < Expected: | Result: <
ALT GR + + Expected: ~ Result: +
We really like PoP. Easy to use the perfect amount of features.
Keep up your awesome work. Thanks

Not sure if this is related but Pop now hijacks some of my keyboard shortcuts that I use quite a bit on VSCode (and elsewhere) Ctl-z undo now triggers the drawing board on Pop, even when it is not in the foreground. I can't actually pair on my machine with Pop now, sad panda. Thanks!

Chad Fennell: please update to v6.1.0, as this issue has been fixed in the latest release.

Host is on macOS 11.2.1. Host keyboard layout is "English > ABC".
As guest, my Mac is running macOS 11.2.3 and my layout is "Swedish - Pro".
If I try to type "å" (a physical key on my keyboard, right of "p"), there is no output at all. Similarly for other keys like "ä", "ö".
If I e.g. type shift+opt+8, which should result in a "{", it instead becomes "°". If I type opt+8, which should result in "[", there is no output at all.
There are more, but maybe this is enough :)

Henrik Nyh: I can reproduce the issue, and we’ll try to fix this asap. Thanks for letting us know!
J Sherwani (Pop Team)
Henrik Nyh: This should now be fixed in the latest update, along with a few other improvements: https://screen.canny.io/changelog/pop-v605

"{" (AltGr + 7) does nothing from Arch Linux (Swedish) to Arch Linux (Swedish).

Jakob Hedman: Works since 5.0.9! \o/

Jakob Hedman: We're going to be looking into Linux keyboard improvements. We made a minor change in the latest update, and I wanted to check in with you to see if you've seen any issues in either the previous or the latest update we just rolled out (https://screen.canny.io/changelog/pop-v605). One issue I have seen is that Alt-Tab doesn't work the way you'd expect (it switches one app and releases Alt). Let me know if you've come across any other ones, as this is something we'll be looking into in the next few days. Thanks!

J Sherwani (Pop Team): Cool! We did some testing and found a few keys not working. Keys can get stuck sometimes too, like when pressing ctrl+s to save a file and it keeps holding s causing "sssssssssss" in the editor until you press s again. It doesn't happen nearly as frequently since a few updates ago though, so we don't really care that much. :)
Host: Arch Linux, i3, Swedish, 6.0.5-1 (Latest from AUR)
Guest: Arch Linux, i3, Swedish, 6.0.5-1
Actual outcome: none
Expected outcome - (keycode from showkey):

^ (shift + 27)
¨ (alt-gr (100) + 27)
` (shift + 13)
´ (13)
å (26)
ä (40)
ö (39)
§ (41)
shift + arrow keys

J Sherwani (Pop Team): This is still the case. Ö is extra annoying for us :)

Problems during sharing session:
- Host: macOS, English
- Guest: Windows, English
- Guest could not use any modifier keys (SHIFT, CTRL, ALT). For example, the Guest typing CTRL-V would just result in a "V" on the Host's computer.
J Sherwani (Pop Team)
Jim Ivey: We fixed this issue shortly after it was reported, but didn't post an update here (sorry about that!). Are you still experiencing any issues with keyboard mapping between macOS and Windows?

Etienne Noel: J Sherwani (Pop Team) Can I help in any way address this issue?
J Sherwani (Pop Team)
Etienne Noël: Thank you for following up! We've got a large keyboard revamp in the pipeline, right after a significant performance improvement that has touched many parts of the code base. We should have more news on this within a week's time. Sorry it took us this long to get to such a fundamental issue!

Etienne Noël
J Sherwani (Pop Team): oh wow thank you so much for the response. I can't wait to see!

J Sherwani (Pop Team): I'm still having the same issues that I posted above. It's hard not being able to type braces and brackets when pair programming. Anything I can send you to help you pinpoint the problems?
