When I start a meeting, the screen (i have a dual monitor setup) that the mouse is currently on turns black.
as a side effect, this means i cannot quit the screen-desktop app via its UI and must kill it instead via terminal.
i'm running 1.0.19 on ubuntu 19.04 using the i3 wm (other screen sharing tools work fine with this setup.

Using compton or another compositor fixes this issue.

Today I tried again, and I have KDE composition working for sure (it sometimes disables itself). This time I got a small black square in the centre of the screen that stayed until i closed screen.so.

I get the same - Arch Linux running snap package and KDE/Plasma(x11) on Nvidia. When I start a meeting the screen with the mouse pointer goes completely black. The other screen is fine. If I move the mouse to the other screen, that goes black instead.

In my case (Archlinux + i3wm), install picom or compton fixes this problem.

matt katz: that did the trick, thank you for the pointer! and for google-fodder: i am using the regolith desktop and had installed the "none" compositor. after installing "regolith-compositor-compton-glx" Screen worked!
